As a homeschooling platform, Monarch aims to serve as a digital alternative to textbooks. The classes are based on pre-recorded lectures and learning materials, rather than live lessons, so your child can access their coursework 24/7 from any device. Interactive games are also included.

 

The focus of Monarch is on independent learning, and the platform handles lesson planning, record-keeping, and most grading. For parents who homeschool, this is quite convenient, as it can help you move from being a full-time instructor to a more facilitative or mentoring role, and guide your kid in the right direction rather than controlling every step. All in all, it’s quite a balanced option if you are looking for a middle ground between structured academics and administrative flexibility.

Monarch is a fully online Christian homeschool curriculum for students in grades 3-12. The curriculum consists of pre-developed videos, reading materials, and interactive games. This can help you and other homeschooling families access learning materials around the clock and reduce the administrative tasks parents have to deal with when homeschooling. 

The platform is a hands-on solution for parents who value a Christian worldview and faith-based learning and want to help their children become independent learners through structured learning materials.

In this review, I will explore whether Monarch’s approach to learning supports long-term learning, as reported by platform users. I’ll look into Monarch Homeschool review and feedback dealing with learning approach, features, effectiveness, and pricing, to help you make an informed decision.

What are the pros and cons of Monarch Homeschool?

Monarch is a versatile platform that gives parents benefits like flexibility, a complete curriculum, and control over that curriculum. On the negative side, the content is too text-heavy, which can get boring for younger kids or visual learners, and there seems to be a need for parental oversight during learning.

One of the main features mentioned in one of the detailed Monarch online school reviews on The Homeschool Mom is its flexibility for parents. According to reviews, it requires a lot of planning and takes the administrative side of homeschooling off parents’ shoulders, mainly through automated scheduling and lesson-plan recalculations. Parents can also reschedule the start of the school year, however they like, and start it at any time. 

Offers a complete curriculum

According to the platform and the Monarch AOP reviews, Monarch offers an all-in-one curriculum with five core subjects and hundreds of electives (we will discuss this in detail in a bit). So, your child can get a comprehensive education in all subjects using Monarch alone, at least in theory.

As such, the platform may not be the best choice for parents who are busy or have a lot on their plates.

Too text-heavy

As stated by this Facebook review as of July 2025, one downside of Monarch Homeschool is its limited content types, as the materials are mostly text. For some parents and children who are auditory learners, the lack of video content appears to affect the learning process.

No, Monarch Homeschool isn’t accredited. That’s because accreditation applies only to educational institutions (schools), not to curricula or platforms. Because Monarch is a standalone platform, and you remain your child’s primary teacher and also handle the administrative side of homeschooling, it cannot be accredited.

Monarch Curriculum reviews: what subjects do students learn?  

Is Monarch Homeschool a good fit for my child? — That’s what many parents ask. To help you answer this question, understanding what the curriculum of the platform looks like in practice is critical.

As I was looking at the Monarch online homeschool reviews, I noticed a pattern: the service seems to be a “love it or leave it”, and whether it’s a good fit often depends more on the personal learning style.

For example, this Reddit user mentions (as of February 2024) that despite a lack of video lessons, or rather having only embedded videos, the learning process is still effective.

At the same time, some users’ reviews mention complaints about the complexity and, at times, poor quality of materials. This user at the Homeschool Mom (as of January 2020) reports having issues with the texts and requirements not always being coherent. However, there were no other mentions of the issues in later reviews.

What subjects does the Monarch AOP Curriculum cover?

Monarch AOP curriculum provides access to 100+ courses across five core subjects, as well as many Monarch Homeschool electives, which also revolve around five core subjects.

• The Bible, which is the cornerstone of the platform. The course focuses on theological foundations and biblical literature.
• Science is also part of the Monarch curriculum, covering biology, physics, Earth studies, and scientific inquiry methods.
• Next up is History, which includes world and US history, Geography, Governance, and Economics. 
• Language arts, which start with early literacy and move to English VI, which includes creative writing and 18th-century English literature. 
• Lastly, Math is a prominent part of the curriculum that first begins with early numeracy and claims to prepare kids for higher mathematics.

As for electives, you can find 60+ covering the 5 core areas. 

Rate: 8/10. The platform offers a comprehensive curriculum with many electives available.

Monarch Homeschool review: User experience feedback

Monarch claims to provide parents with a comprehensive dashboard where they can track their kids’ progress, schedule the school year, and assign and customize courses. The students, on the other hand, get interactive courses filled with learning materials and tests. The platform also offers a text-to-speech tool with multiple voice options for students with reading difficulties and anyone who learns better by hearing.

I have gone through the reviews on Monarch Homeschool to see what users have to say about the platform’s experience. When looking at them, I noticed that the design of the platform, which is in a textbook-on-the-screen format due to large amounts of learning materials, often leads to frustration, especially during the assignments.

A common issue reported is that Monarch logs children out after a period of inactivity or cuts their writing, as according to this Reddit review (as of November 2025). 

For this user, despite the platform’s benefits, the buggy experience led them to abandon it, as they kept being logged out and losing their work. At the same time, the review isn’t entirely negative. The lesson-planning and grading automations Monarch Homeschool offers made the learning process much easier for the working parent, as they handled many of the homeschool logistics.

Another recurring issue I’ve spotted is that embedded videos on the site seem quite old, and there are many bugs when watching them, as shown by YouTube comment.

Rate: 4/10. Overall, the platform still has room for improvement on the user experience side. The offered automations are helpful and effective for parents, but students often find the website buggy.

Impact on learning: What parents notice

Let’s now look at the impact of Monarch Homeschool on learning. According to this review of Monarch Homeschool curriculum on the Homeschool Mom (as of April 2018), for example, the math and science curricula may not be sufficient if your kid loves those subjects and wants to explore them in depth. Here, while Monarch can be a nice supplement, it may not be enough as a standalone platform. 

The lack of depth in math and science has been a recurring theme among other reviews as well. At the same time, when it comes to the humanities, the platform seems to do a good job, as according to this review on Homeschool Mom (as of October 2018). 

However, I couldn’t find any recent reviews mentioning the impact factor.

Rate: 7/10. Overall, it seems like the courses Monarch provides are quite simple. For some subjects, the platform does a good job, while for others, if you want to go deeper, it may not be enough. 

What users say about Monarch Homeschool pricing

Now, let’s take a look at the financial side of how the platform works. Here, unfortunately, not many reviews were available. The first one is about the payment and subscription cancellation, which can be a bit of a hassle, as according to the review on Homeschool Mom.

Another important piece of feedback on the Homeschool Mom states (as of April 2019) that Monarch Homeschool cost can add up quickly if you are homeschooling multiple kids. More specifically, sometimes the platform offers discounts for a set number of kids, but those discounts aren’t flexible. Overall, the pricing isn’t very dynamic.

Overall, the costs seem quite manageable, and payments and refunds are straightforward.
