Thinking about getting an Adventure Academy subscription for your child? Great! As a teacher, I know learning platforms well, so I made this article to help you understand the Adventure Academy cost, the available plans, and the free options you can try. Plus, I’ll share a few details about purchases in Adventure Academy that you won’t find on the official site – and it’s important to know them before subscribing.

Key points

  • The Adventure Academy price starts at $12.99 per month or around $45-59 per year. But keep in mind – that’s just the subscription cost. You also need to add tax, which can be anywhere from 4% to 23%, depending on your region.
  • Adventure Academy works best for children ages 8-13 who enjoy learning through games, because the whole app is fully gamified.
  • You can’t install Adventure Academy on every device. It works best on iPhones from the X series (or at least 6S), Windows 10 and above, and Android 9.0 and above.
  • Adventure Academy is still a game – it doesn’t replace real, structured learning. If your child needs one-on-one tutoring or a clear learning plan with a teacher focused only on them, there’s a good alternative: Brighterly reading and math program.

How much is Adventure Academy?

  • Monthly: $12.99/month until canceled
  • Short-term: $29.99 every 6 months until canceled
  • Annual: $45.00/year until canceled

However, it’s important to say that these prices are official and kind of conditional. There are a few nuances, and I will explain them below.

What is Adventure Academy?

Adventure Academy is an app designed for kids aged 8-13, created by the same team behind the legendary ABCmouse. Their whole approach is “learning disguised as a game.” Literally everything looks like a video game.

How much is Adventure Academy?

Kids level up their avatar, complete quests, and do activities in math, reading, geography, chemistry, and other subjects. By finishing tasks, they move to new levels and unlock different locations.

The platform is perfect for kids who are impossible to pull away from video games because here, they still play, but also learn without even noticing. I’m pretty sure it can bring good results.
But there’s also another side to this and I talk about it below in the “Parent reviews” section.

And now, let’s dive deeper into the question “How much does Adventure Academy cost?”

Adventure Academy subscription cost

As I mentioned above, the annual subscription officially costs $45.

However, after checking different reviews and parent comments about Adventure Academy pricing, I noticed something interesting. Some parents say their annual subscription was $79 because of certain personal settings or simply because they bought the app not through the website, but, for example, through the App Store. Prices there can be different.

I even tried downloading the app myself to double-check this, but sadly, it kept glitching, so I couldn’t confirm it personally.

Note: I really recommend checking the cost of Adventure Academy on different platforms before you buy.

Another thing to keep in mind – we already know the annual plan is $45, but this is only an offer for new users who get a free first month. If you decide to renew your annual subscription after a year, the price becomes $59.99. And of course, you’ll still need to pay tax on top of that (I explain more about taxes below).

Here’s a screenshot from the official website showing the renewal info about Adventure Academy price:

Always double-check the prices, because the website may offer special deals or discounts. Prices can also vary depending on your location.

Adventure Academy cost per month

If you choose the monthly subscription, you’ll pay $12.99 per month plus tax. In the US, depending on the state, it can be around 6-10%.

Adventure Academy cost per month

To help you understand how much does Adventure Academy cost per month, I created a simple table.

Tax for the monthly Adventure Academy subscription

Region
Tax rate
Extra cost
Total
Florida 6–7% $0.78–$0.91 ~$13.77–13.90
Texas 8% $1.03 $14.02
California 7–10% $0.91–$1.30 ~$13.90–14.29

To sum it up, for one month you may be charged anywhere from $0.78 to $1.30 in additional tax.

Note: In some states or countries, there might be no tax at all but it’s important to be aware of this nuance.

Adventure Academy cost per year

When it comes to the annual subscription, we’ve already figured out that the price can vary depending on (1) the platform you’re buying from, (2) your location, and (3) any active promotions.

However, in any case, if your child plans to use Adventure Academy long-term, the yearly plan is definitely the better deal.

If you pay monthly for 12 months, the total would be $155.88. On the other hand, with the Adventure Academy discount, an annual subscription is almost three times cheaper, just $45 for new users, and almost $60 for those who are renewing.

The same tax story applies here, too – the numbers are just a bit different. For US residents with typical tax rates, the annual subscription usually costs between $47.70 and $49.50, that’s $2.70–$4.50 extra on top of the base $45.

Is Adventure Academy free with any features?

Adventure Academy is not free. The app works only through paid subscriptions. Although one feature might be counted as “free” – the ability to use the platform with up to three kids from one account.

However, I’m not sure you can share your account with a friend on another device. This feature is mostly meant for different kids in the same family and on the same device.

I recommend checking the details with the developer. I’ll also share how their support service works below.

Is there a way to get Adventure Academy for free?

Yes, it’s possible to get Adventure Academy for free but only for one month. So, how to get Adventure Academy for free? It’s easy: when you are a new user, the platform gives you a 30-day trial period, and after that, the payment is charged.

Additionally, I’d recommend keeping an eye on the day the charge goes through if you’re not sure you want to subscribe. According to parent reviews, the money is taken quickly, and it’s not that easy to get a refund. I’ll cover this more in the next sections of the article.

Adventure Academy reviews, complaints & positive feedback

I checked all the major review platforms to collect honest parent feedback – not just about Adventure Academy’s price, but about whether the program is actually worth it. Reviews are mixed, and I’d say the negative ones show up a bit more. But plenty of parents are happy with it, so let’s start with the positives.

Parents who enjoy the application love the idea of learning and practising through gameplay. On Common Sense, they say the game is full of helpful content, and kids like choosing what to learn and what to skip. That freedom really motivates them. That’s why some parents don’t quite understand the complaints about the game.

Another Trustindex review comes from a young player. So what do kids think? They clearly don’t care about Adventure Academy cost – instead, they enthusiastically talk about the game’s features, share suggestions, and say it’s a great way to learn more outside of school. Sometimes they mention bugs in the game, but overall, kids really enjoy it.

Adventure Academy reviews, complaints & positive feedback

As for the negative reviews, they touch on different issues from parents saying the developers weren’t honest to others warning about safety concerns.

Also, while looking through reviews of Adventure Academy, I noticed many parents sharing problems with canceling subscriptions and customer support. One parent explained that they downloaded the app and canceled the trial immediately, but the charge still went through, and customer support didn’t help.

Adventure Academy reviews, complaints & positive feedback

Besides  Adventure Academy cost and possible scams, I also noticed a few complaints about the in-game chat. Some parents say their kids skip the learning tasks and just run around chatting. Others reported instances of bullying in the chat. One mom mentioned that children or adults in the chat can promote just about anything – and no one seems to monitor it.

I also saw another review where parents warn others to be very careful with the app. They say strangers can play with your child and send them different kinds of messages.

The next review on Reddit isn’t really about the Adventure Academy subscription itself, but about the support team. Users reported that payments kept being charged for years even after they canceled their subscription! According to them, the game’s support team acts strangely – they don’t answer calls and ask for a lot of personal information instead.

I’ll leave the conclusions up to you. I’m just sharing real reviews that you can check out yourself. But I would recommend being careful with Adventure Academy free trial and subscriptions.

Looking for an Adventure Academy alternative?

If you’re looking for an alternative to Adventure Academy, I recommend the Brighterly math and reading platform, a platform that takes your child’s learning seriously.

Looking for an Adventure Academy alternative?

Unlike the gamified-only Adventure Academy, Brighterly works with a structured learning plan. Brighterly teachers first find out a student’s strengths and weaknesses through a placement test, then create a personalized program and guide the student step by step to achieve results.

Brighterly focuses on math and reading (covering everything from reading and writing to comprehension and speaking). Highly qualified mentors work with kids from grades 1-9.

I’ll go over what Brighterly offers right now, and you can decide: is Adventure Academy worth it or better try its best alternative?

Brighterly: Main features every parent should know

Highly qualified teachers and 1-on-1 lessons

There aren’t that many platforms on the market that work with students individually. However, it’s not enough to find a platform that offers one-on-one lessons – you also need high-quality teachers. I know for sure that Brighterly carefully selects its tutors. All of them are certified and have lots of experience. They know how to work with kids who have trouble focusing and paying attention, and find the right approach to each student.

Note: All lessons are built around American school standards, so your child can improve at school while enjoying learning.

The lessons are also interactive. Every class brings something new: colorful animations, presentations, video clips, colorful homework, and lots of communication with the teacher.

Free learning materials

Unlike Adventure Academy subscription, Brighterly offers plenty of free features. To check child’s strengths and weaknesses, you can use math tests and reading tests from its website. This will show which topics need more attention.

After that, you can help your child improve those tricky topics with other free materials from Brighterly – math worksheets and reading worksheets. They’re created by professional teachers, structured, and not boring. You can print them out and use them anytime.

Free learning materials

Note: Brighterly worksheets are a fun way for kids to sharpen skills like number sense, logical thinking, and problem-solving. They also show how math applies in real life, making practice useful and engaging.

Responsive customer support

Brighterly tutors are flexible if a student can’t attend a lesson or needs adjustments. Staff send parents regular reports on their child’s progress and achievements. And of course, if there are questions about payments or personal matters, the support team tries to respond promptly.

Brighterly reviews from parents

It’s more than just a program description – real reviews say the most. For example, on    Trustpilot, many parents share their experiences with Brighterly. A lot of families note that the program is truly step-by-step and effective. Parents receive learning reports and can easily track their child’s progress.

Brighterly reviews from parents

In another review, parents highlight how well the lessons are organized and praise the teachers for their ability to work with different types of children and remain patient. They also notice how engaged their kids are throughout the learning process.

Adventure Academy cost vs Brighterly: Which is more affordable?

Adventure Academy seems like a more affordable option at first – you pay, for example, $12 and play games for 30 days, or $45 and your child can use it for a whole year! Sounds like a good deal.

But remember – Adventure Academy is still a game. A fun and effective one, yes, but a game. It works well as an additional resource or for productive free time.

If you’re looking for serious learning, that’s a different approach. It’s not about 10 minutes a day with a personal avatar. It’s about structured exercises, conversations with a teacher, and step-by-step skill development. The price for such an approach is usually higher than Adventure Academy cost, but the results are much stronger, too.

Brighterly lessons start at $17.30 per lesson. Pricing is simpler: the longer the plan, the less you pay per lesson.

Brighterly pricing

  • 12-month plan: $17.30 per lesson
  • 6-month plan: $19.40 per lesson
  • 3-month plan: $20.20 per lesson
  • Monthly plan: $20.70 per lesson

Note: These prices are for a plan with three lessons per week. If you are interested in all pricing options, please visit Brighterly pricing page or contact its support for clarification.
