From my perspective, the idea behind the app is really simple and helpful. But after reading all the XtraMath reviews, I noticed that the app doesn’t always help students as much as it should, and sometimes it can even be a bit harmful. I’d say this feature still needs some improvements.

Time pressure

While researching, I came across dozens of complaints that the app doesn’t give kids enough time to solve problems – we’re talking 2-6 seconds depending on the grade. Both parents and kids mention this. You can find these comments, for example, on         Trustpilot. 

That said, it’s worth noting that after the latest update, the time limit can be turned off! Another downside is that the app doesn’t offer any explanations. Is XtraMath good for you as according to its interface

I’d say the site looks pretty nice overall, but during registration, I noticed it’s not super easy to get to the actual practice drills. I had to wander around my account for about 20 minutes to find the right tool. That’s because the first thing I saw after signing up was an ad for a bright, gamified game, which also claimed to be educational. So, without thinking much, I clicked on it – but there was nothing really educational in it, just creating an avatar and running around a school. The real drill tool is tucked behind a small heading, so pay attention to that.

 

Overall, the interface is great for me as an adult, and my first-grade student found it interesting enough to spend 5 minutes doing problems. But there are plenty of parents and kids who find it boring.

XtraMath reviews: Effectiveness

There are parents online who admit the app is effective. As I said before, the idea is great – you get random problems, solve them quickly every day, and even memorize them over time. That’s wonderful.

At the same time, parents point out that it’s still boring for kids. There are no motivational rewards. There’s some animation after 100 problems, but it only lasts a few seconds – kids barely get to enjoy it. Here’s a parent comment on Common Sense Media that sums it up perfectly.

So, is the app effective? I see one big downside: the site drills basic arithmetic, so it’s really only designed for elementary and middle school students. But the developers didn’t fully consider the needs of kids in this age group.

They could add small rewards for motivation, maybe a more colorful interface. In my opinion, this app feels more like it’s for adults who want to practice math. For many kids, based on reviews, the experience can even be stressful.

First of all, XtraMath offers an FAQ and some helpful resources, but I didn’t find a real-time helpline or live support. However, there is an email you can use to contact them. While researching, I didn’t see responses to complaint comments from the company.

That said, I want to note that after many complaints about the time pressure during practice, the developers listened and fixed it. At the time of checking, the “turn off timer” feature works perfectly. This was the main concern parents had.

XtraMath cost: Is it worth it?

The main functionality of XtraMath is free, with no time limits, which is enough for most families. But there are paid options too, starting from $2 per year. 

I didn’t find any detailed XtraMath review on this topic, but the plans are clearly listed on the website.   

For example, if you’re learning at home and want more effective practice, XtraMath offers a Family plan for just $2 per year. With this plan, you can create your own program and printable materials.

The platform also offers a Teacher plan for $50 per year, which allows a teacher to give access to 50 students. And of course, the most popular option is the School unlimited plan for $500 per year: unlimited users, student reports, and advanced analytics.

Overall, XtraMath is very affordable, and the free options are plenty. That’s a big plus. But keep in mind – this isn’t a full learning program. The price reflects a math drill tool, not a full curriculum. If that works for you, XtraMath is worth your attention and money.
