Armamie Tancio

Twelve years in, Armamie Tancio has moved between classroom instruction and online ESL teaching without losing her footing in either one. She started at Saint Benilde International School, then shifted to online teaching in 2014, taking on work with learning platforms.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a major in English, along with TESOL and TEYL certifications, backs her up. She’s joined Brighterly as a Reading, ELA, and Writing tutor for elementary students.

Education and Professional Skills

Notre Dame of Midsayap College is where Armamie earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education (English major) back in 2006.

TESOL and TEYL certifications came later. Together, they back up her work with young English language learners spread across different countries and skill levels — not a one-size lesson plan in sight.

Armamie Tancio’s Experience Before Brighterly

Before Brighterly, twelve years went into building a teaching portfolio that stretched across classroom and online settings alike. One-on-one sessions, group classes, young learners, adult professionals — Armamie handled all of it, adjusting her instruction for Chinese, Japanese, and European students on several international platforms.

That kind of range leaves a mark. It’s shaped how she teaches today: lessons built around a student’s specific background and pace, never the same plan recycled for whoever walks in next.

“Every milestone a student reaches is a victory we share.”

My students' achievement is my ultimate reward, because watching them improve means I have done my job well in unlocking their full potential.

Current Activities and Approach to Students

Closing the gap between text on a page and a child’s everyday life — that’s where Armamie puts her energy. Short videos, colorful materials, a multimedia-driven approach woven right into the reading itself: all of it aimed at holding a young learner’s attention from the first minute of a lesson.

“I help children find themselves in the story.”

This way, we turn reading into something personal.

She skips the drill-and-sound-it-out routine. Instead, students find themselves inside the characters and the plot. Relate a story event to something a kid already lived through, and the text stops feeling like homework — reading intuition builds from there, quietly, over time.

Somewhere in that shift, reading stops being a routine school task and starts feeling like something that belongs to the student. Armamie treats that change as the real marker of progress, well ahead of any single test score.

Writing runs right alongside the reading work, never as an afterthought. Organizing thoughts, outlining arguments, building out full essays and paragraphs — Armamie walks students through each step. Sentence construction gets attention too: varied, grammatically sound, moving away from flat statements toward something clearer and more descriptive.

Reading and writing, in her sessions, function as one connected skill rather than two separate subjects. A student leaves with actual writing to show for the lesson — not a worksheet filed away and forgotten.
