My main priority in teaching reading is to help students build strong reading skills while developing a genuine love for books. I create engaging, age-appropriate lessons that make reading fun, meaningful, and accessible.

My approach to teaching reading is always student-first. Previously unmotivated students leave my lessons with more purpose because I help them understand how reading can be relevant for their daily life and success. And whether we practice phonemic awareness or decoding skills, it’s always with a lot of smiles!

I use a lot of scaffolding and relatable texts that allows the students to become engaged and immerse with the texts, simplifying structures and explaining details to increase confidence and show students that literature can be simple and interesting.

There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a child discover the joy of reading and the whole world of imagination that comes with it! With 21+ years supporting children with special needs, I tailor every lesson to how your child learns best.

I focus on making reading feel personal rather than like a chore, so I look for books and topics that genuinely match each student’s interests before diving into skill-building. From there, we work on decoding, fluency, and comprehension through discussion, retelling, and short writing exercises tied to what they’ve read.
