Pinky Dumaguing
Pinky Dumaguing has spent two years teaching, and no two of her lessons look quite alike. She’s joined Brighterly as a Reading and ELA tutor, working with students from Kindergarten through high school on foundational reading, vocabulary, and grammar.
Education and Professional Skills
Pinky earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from the University of the Philippines in 2017, majoring in Social Anthropology with a minor in Psychology.
She also holds a TEFL Certificate, an ELA Track certificate of completion, and a Teaching Mastery Course completion certificate.
Pinky Dumaguing’s Experience Before Brighterly
Online ESL lessons with Japanese learners took up a good part of Pinky’s teaching career before Brighterly. Kids, adults, one-on-one, all working toward the same kind of goal: confident spoken English, and test scores high enough to matter for a job promotion or the next stage of school.
Math came next, taught to kids between four and twelve, both one-on-one and in groups. Lessons stayed structured, with homework and worksheets that let her track how each student was doing week to week.
Sunday School filled out the rest of her background, taught face-to-face to kids as young as three and as old as fourteen. Parents got regular feedback on how their kids were learning and where their Bible knowledge stood.

What I like about teaching is the satisfaction of seeing my students learn from the lessons I deliver. When they become more confident and better at something that they used to struggle with, that is the most rewarding moment as a teacher.
Current Activities and Approach to Students
Games show up often in Pinky’s lessons, and not as a reward tacked onto the end. She builds them into the reading work itself, so skill-building and having fun happen at the same time instead of competing with each other.
Grammar gets attention too, along with vocabulary and homework support tied to whatever a student’s school actually assigns. None of it feels separate from the reading work.
Watching a student go from struggling with something to handling it with ease, according to Pinky, beats every other part of the job.
