Eight years of teaching sit behind Victoria Edet, most of it built around reading, writing, and language instruction across several countries. She’s joined Brighterly as a Reading, ELA, and Writing tutor for students in grades K through 12.
Education and Professional Skills
Victoria holds a Master of Arts Degree in English from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, earned in 2023. A TEFL certification backs up her classroom credentials.
Before Brighterly, Victoria worked as an ESL tutor with Glats in Cebu, Philippines, teaching children, teenagers, and adults. Lessons there focused on language skills, comprehension, and academic performance in a structured setting.

Papaya, an American online tutoring platform, came next. Virtual, one-on-one lessons made up most of that role, with Victoria working closely alongside school teachers to reinforce what students were already learning in class.
Progress got assessed regularly. Detailed feedback went back to both students and schools, so improvement was something everyone could actually track instead of guessing at.

Current Activities and Approach to Students
Reading, in Victoria’s lessons, stops being a task and starts being something a student wants to sit with. She guides students through characters and emotions, tying story events back to something real in their own lives.
Predictions get made. Outcomes get discussed. Students weigh in on what a story means to them, and Victoria keeps the conversation loose enough that a wrong guess never feels like a wrong answer.
Storytelling and voice work their way into every session too, alongside relatable examples that keep things from feeling like a lecture. Curiosity-driven questions open most lessons, giving students room to bring their own read on a text before Victoria adds hers.
Writing gets just as much attention. Essays, short stories, simple poetry, sentence structure, grammar. Prompts and sensory writing techniques help students get their thoughts down clearly, and homework support rounds out whatever a school assignment still needs.
