Larry Mulig’s Experience Before Brighterly
Before he joined Brighterly, Larry had 8+ years of experience teaching Mathematics and conducting research, both offline and online. He worked as a Senior High School teacher and research adviser, while tutoring 1:1 part-time at the same time. Larry taught math classes and supported students through classwork and homework, as well as developed lesson plans with the team of educators and individually. He ran regular assessments and tests and held teacher-parent sessions to update families on their children’s progress.
Now, Larry is part of the Brighterly team, aiming to build a training solution for students that is both effective and fun.
“Brighterly’s values resonated with me from the very first meeting. ”
As a school teacher myself, I know — schools don't do a good job at teaching the individual. Students get frustrated before they can truly connect to math. At Brighterly, we aim to solve it with accessible 1:1 tutoring. My goal has always been the same: to give students the personalized support they need and to show them that math is not hard. So, here at Brighterly, I have the opportunity to do that.
Current Activities and Approach to Students
Larry has been teaching for over 8 years, both as a school teacher and a private after-school tutor. Larry works with a wide range of learners: from struggling students with serious gaps to advanced students preparing for STEM programs. Larry is committed to helping students build learning confidence before anything else. He builds individualized plans for each student, with their weaknesses and strengths in mind. Larry believes that conceptual teaching is more important than just drills. His teaching philosophy is:
- Taking the pressure off. Students deserve math lessons that don’t stress them but encourage curiosity and confidence.
- Demonstrating practical math applications should be the core of every math lesson.
“The most rewarding part of teaching is watching a student turn confusion into confidence.”
Teachers and parents make the same mistake — they can’t explain why math is important. It’s not just for the GPA or a college application. It is for a better understanding of the world, better decision-making, and problem-solving. Math is integral to everyday life, and when we make students understand that, learning becomes simple.
With over 8 years of experience, Larry continues to lay the groundwork for better math skills for every learner. He keeps developing his expertise through ongoing research and career advancement.
