Ella Jane Icawalo
Three years, split between virtual and in-person classrooms — that’s Ella Jane Icawalo’s track record as a reading and ELA tutor. She’s joined Brighterly as an Educational Advisor, guiding students from elementary through high school and adults in reading comprehension and creative writing. Make literature feel approachable from lesson one: that’s the goal driving everything she does.
Education and Professional Skills
A Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, Major in English, from Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges — Ella earned that in 2024. A Master’s Degree in Arts in Education, same major, same institution, is currently in progress. Licensed Professional Teacher status backs her up, along with a Teaching English as a Foreign/Secondary Language certification and a Healthcare Services certificate.
Creative writing methods sit at the center of her graduate research. That extra layer of grounding shows up in her lessons, reaching beyond what day-to-day classroom practice alone would give her.
Ella Jane Icawalo’s Experience Before Brighterly
Three years of experience working with students of every age and need before she joined Brighterly. Her background covers:
- One-on-one and small-group virtual lessons, including English language and IELTS preparation
- A teaching internship working with general education students and learners with special educational needs in classroom settings
- Regular parent-teacher consultations to keep families updated on student progress
- A focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills across every lesson
Now Ella brings all of it to Brighterly’s tutoring team, guiding students through reading comprehension and creative writing.
“I make reading an exciting adventure, not just another school assignment.”
I believe that students learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process. As the saying goes, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn.”
Current Activities and Approach to Students
Something to look forward to, not a task to get through — that’s how Ella treats reading at Brighterly. Comprehension work gets paired with hands-on activities, plot structure and character analysis worked through side by side.
“Creative writing is my specialty.”
I guide students step by step through essays, stories, and poetry.
A mix of genres runs through Ella’s lessons, and somewhere in that variety, each student finds material that actually holds their attention. Early room to discover a reading preference matters more than it might seem.
Grammar and vocabulary get built in, not bolted on. Ella walks students through each one step by step, and confidence grows with every piece finished.
