Tamaya Govender is an experienced reading tutor with five years spread across private tutoring, schools, and online platforms. At Brighterly, she is guiding students in grades K through 12 through phonics, word blending, and vocabulary building.
Education and Professional Skills
Back in 2019, Tamaya earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Industrial Psychology. A PGCE specializing in English came four years after that, in 2023. Add a SACE Teaching License and a TEFL certificate, and the paperwork side of her training is covered.
Language on one end, psychology on the other, with hands-on classroom training holding the middle together. Out of that mix comes a teaching style where reading strategy meets a real sense of how kids actually take in new material.

Current Activities and Approach to Students
Scaffolding does a lot of the heavy lifting in Tamaya’s lessons, paired with texts that connect to a student’s actual life instead of some generic reading list. Complex structures get simplified. Piece by piece, details get broken down, until literature stops feeling like something to dread.
Then comprehension work kicks in. Read the question closely first, Tamaya tells her students, then work out what kind of answer it’s actually asking for. Quoting a text and using it as evidence comes next, a habit that sticks around well past reading class, showing up in other subjects entirely.

Brainstorming kicks off her creative writing lessons. Planning follows. Somewhere after that, an idea starts turning into something finished, and Tamaya walks each student through the whole process herself.
