Ann Carlen A. Flores
Ann Carlen A. Flores is an educational advisor and a tutor in reading, ELA, and writing with ten years of experience both online and in a classroom setting. Currently, Ann works with students in grades five through twelve, helping them develop their reading comprehension, creative writing skills, and grammar.

Ann holds a Master of Arts in Education with a Major in English from Surigao del Norte State University. As a Licensed Professional Teacher, she is certified in English language, reading, ELA, and writing (Licensure Examination for Teachers).
In addition to a foundational understanding of reading, Ann is an expert in reading comprehension, vocabulary development, creative narrative writing, literary analysis, critical reading, grammar, and essay writing. She tutors students at all grade levels, from elementary school through high school.
Ann’s background makes her a good fit to assist students in needing more structure to their reading practice and in the context of a standards-based education.

Prior to her position with Brighterly, Ann had ten years of experience as a teacher:
- 4 years as an online English teacher with online educational platforms, handling one-on-one virtual lessons for students of different ages
- 10 years as a classroom teacher, where she was responsible for managing in-person instruction, everyday classroom procedures, assessments on student learning, and consistent communication with parents

Current Activities and Approach to Students
Ann at Brighterly helps students expand their comprehension and vocabulary, practice the art of creative storytelling, and master grammar.
Her lessons concentrate on plot, character, and theme, and Ann customizes every session to a student’s specific grade level and reading ability.
Ann exposes students to a variety of genres in her classes, from fiction, fables, and poetry to non-fiction informational articles. Through these experiences, kids can explore various writing styles and build reading habits that extend far beyond one book.
Throughout Ann’s lessons, children are encouraged to ask questions and share their ideas about the reading materials. Ann regards every student’s feedback as a launching pad for deeper conversation, using stories and real-world examples to connect new topics to students’ prior knowledge.

Ann’s lessons conclude with homework assistance and writing practice-including creative writing pieces, essays, and poems-supported by grammar exercises and sentence-building techniques. Students walk away from Ann’s sessions with the visible progress they’ve made in clear and confident writing.
