Laila A. Lico

Laila A. Lico began her teaching career over 12 years ago and has since developed a personal approach focused on making lessons enjoyable, meaningful, and relatable. Currently, she occupies a position as a tutor specialist at the Brighterly reading & math tutoring platform. She also actively shares her experiences through free resources, like blog posts and reading worksheets.

Education and professional skills

In 2012, Laila A. Lico completed her Bachelor of Secondary Education degree with a major in English and became a Licensed Professional Teacher in 2013. Her teaching career also began the same year.

During the next decade, Laila completed numerical courses, which allowed her to effectively work with struggling students, conduct productive teacher training, and develop personalized learning approaches.

The Brighterly reading tutor eagerly shares the standout peculiarities of her methods:

“What I enjoy most about teaching reading fluency is the deep sense of purpose it gives me.”

Nothing satisfies me more than seeing a child who had no prior reading skills or confidence suddenly acquire the ability to read. No matter how minor, that breakthrough moment gives me a sense of happiness and fulfillment that keeps me motivated every day.

Past experience and qualifications

Before becoming a Brighterly reading tutor, Laila A. Lico participated in numerous teaching initiatives, significantly enriching her portfolio of jobs. She joined the tutoring community immediately after completing her university studies. She focused on teaching pupils of all ages, from grade 1 to 12. While Reading Comprehension was her primary subject, she also held courses in Grammar, Language, and Research Writing.

From the very beginning of her career, she put a strong emphasis on the particular needs of each learner. Thus, she closely analyzed the current level and learning styles and compiled her programs accordingly.

From 2014 to 2016, she served as a Reading Enhancement Program Coordinator. While working as the reading tutor for kids struggling with the subject, she simplified the learning curve for numeric students.

From 2016 to 2021, Laila held the position of the Academic Head. In this role, she provided leadership and help to fellow teachers. During these years, she solidified and developed her skills in curriculum planning, classroom supervision, and mentoring.

After joining the Brighterly team as the online reading tutor, she shifted her primary focus to the virtual setting. Her extensive and varied experience ensures that all her lessons remain relatable and engaging, with a strong emphasis on real-world context and rapid academic progression.

Bringing value as the core priority of teaching

Laila A. Lico is proud of her varied experience, which has enabled her to develop a unique approach for each learner. While conducting her reading lessons, she sticks to the following principles:

  • Close analysis of students’ needs. Whether beginner, average, or advanced learners, Laila has a perspective that caters to any group.
  • She believes that all lessons should be engaging because it’s how emotional responses are created.
  • She is a strong advocate against forced learning. Instead, she believes the entire process should be logical and practice-related.

Laila A. Lico is a master of creating interpersonal bonds. Whether a child needs homework assistance or advanced improvement of their reading skills, this tutor works with any learning purpose.
